Start Up Guide

The NVCN is grateful to the SCAN Foundation, CA, for their assistance in creating a Start Up Guide to provide communities direction in developing interfaith volunteer caregiving programs. As of January 2012, ten California communities have been selected to receive the technical help needed to begin volunteer services for those with long-term health needs including the elderly and disabled.

It is our vision that every community throughout the United States will be able to begin and support a volunteer caregiving program.  The neighbor helping neighbor model has proven to be an indespensable community resource. Currently thousands of individual needs such as transportation to critical medical appointments, respite care for family members, and other needs are being met by our member agencies.

We are told over and over that the support members receive from the NVCN helps them to focus on local strategies, because the NVCN provides educational opportunties, meets administrative challenges, and implements conections via conferences and discussions groups.
